The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I was told that there's someone out there who makes replica Steadicam rigs for smartgunner kits... anyone have any information about this?

Also, while I'm on the subject... who do I talk to about ordering BDUs?

A little more digging brought me to:

I think this may be the guy Tentacle Chris told me about. Does anyone know who he is or how I can get ahold of him?

Thanks :)

The guy with the rig is Jesse DeGraff from California. He made the rig himself using the same steadicam arm used in the film (I think).

It took him well over two years to put it together (and not because he was slow or lazy ;) ). Cost a small fortune as well.

He was a member here- although he hasn't posted much lately (his account seems to have been deleted).

Unfortunately I don't have his email anymore- damn PC hiccups.

Harry - thanks for the edit... I was trying to just post a link to the image to save bandwidth, but that works too :)

Kevin - thanks for the info. it definitely does look like the actual steadicam arm! I doubt I'll be able to get ahold of one of those, but I'm pretty sure I could fabricate a replica given enough time. I just need to find someone who can show me how it's all supposed to go together.

I heard a rumor about someone making a kit for the vest, have any of you heard anything like that?

If you think you can make your own rig check out www.codydeegan.com he sells plans for homemade rigs.
Mine was originally his basic homebuild system,i changed the bones for narrower ones and changed the springs(these could still do with being uprated) and made some ally spring covers.
My chest plate is scratch built from sheet ally .

Yeah,i have the plans for his newer rig as well ,but thats not really a homebuild.Everything needs to be machined on the new rig.I'll bring em to the NSC in may if you want.

Well, just ordered my steadicam plans from codydeegan.com Should be here in a couple days, and then I can get my arse over to Home Depot. Big thanks to Andy for posting those pics and showing me that I *can* make something with that kind of quality myself :)

I also got an email from Matsuo that he's working on a full M56 resin conversion kit, so I'm going to hold off on the smartgun and work on the rig first. Hopefully his kit will be ready for sale by the time I'm done.

I'm still waiting to hear back from MAA about the camos, but hopefully I should have my order for those in soon too.

I know there are a few kits out there for the shoulder lamp so I'm not too worried about that. The last piece of the puzzle is, can anyone give me some pointers on making the smartgunner headset?

Thanks again, everyone :) Wish me luck!

Just to clarify, Jesse's arm is scratch built based on original part measurements of the Steadicam MK3 arm. And it IS quite nice. :)

I've looked into getting the second version of Cody's arm made and it would cost about $1500 for me to hire a machinist to get it done. So... needless to say it hasn't happened yet. :)

Cody's first set of plans are totally do-able by the average guy with home tools. One guy in the UK did it and it looks great.
