The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hey Marines,

With the prospect of being roomed off-site for the first time looming before me, I've been looking for a solution for moving my gear around the Con. The vest and arm should fit easily in a foam lined case (or hell, even a rolling duffel if need be), but the Smarty's odd dimensions are proving to be a bigger challenge. I had a case I thought I could stick wheels on and use, and I was right - until I tried to close it. The width and length are sufficient, but not the depth. Even with all of the lining pulled out, the lid just barely hits the top of the grip before closing. Arrrgh! :?

So, I'm looking for suggestions. If anyone has any ideas for places I could look, brand names I could check, etc, please post 'em! For reference, the case/bag needs to be at least 53" long, by 14" wide, by 7 or 8" deep.

Thanks in advance!

Hmm, given the odd dimensions of the Smartgun, I doubt there is a suitable case for it (but you learn something new every day... :wink: )
However, if you look into the musik/lighting business (Harry?) there's losts of stuff to build your own case. There are also keyboard hardcases...

Oh - would this one do?:

Interior Dimensions:
* Length: 48.25"
* Width: 16.00"
* Depth: 12.375"

Cheers,

I can let you see if it'll fit in Val's box. Val's barrel is removable, so she can travel in something smaller.

However, It's just a cardboard box, which is fine for the steel rifle, but may be less desirable for a resin machine gun.

EDIT: Actually, the 3rd dimension of the box is under 7". Sorry.

LSKIV, that second link is perfect. I highly doubt they could get one to me in time, but I've bookmarked it for later.

My fault for not thinking of this sooner, but as soon as my big fat financial aid comes in for this semester I'm gonna order one of those cases you linked. At least I'll have it for future cons! Thanks again.

Hi outcry

Will you be taking the foam out of that second one?
Only asking because, just in case you hadn't noticed, looks like the internal measurements given are smaller than you require.

After searching around, I settled on a padded, wheeled 76-key keyboard bag from Sam Ash music supply :D

Room for the gun, as well as the arm and headset too!

As well as... "accessories" 8)

And of course, proper identification.

Next step is to fill it with heavy foam, cut out spots for the gun, arm, and headset, and then find some way to "tactical" it up a bit. I'm thinking of printing out a giant "U.S.C.M." stencil in the Spacedock font and spraying that on the front, as well as some "PROPERTY OF U.S.C.M." and "AUTHORIZED HANDLERS ONLY" on the sides and such. Suggestions welcome!!
