The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Amongst all the other festivities at the NSC, this weekend saw the inauguration of a new AL award. This is an idea which came about earlier this year when Jason and Mike were discussing a re-run of their pewter 'wings' badge, and thought it would be nice to make a gold version only presented to specially-chosen individuals.

They sought the official backing of the board staff and thus the Aliens Legacy Gold Award, or ALG was born. The award is given for services to the Aliens fan community, which of course includes the cast and crew!

Mike put his design skills to use and came up with a great looking certificate to go with the badge too.

------------------------

This year the recipients were:

Terry English - Aliens armour maker.

Trevor Steedman - Private Wierzbowski.

Ian Whyte - Alien vs. Predator / AvP2-R.

Spat - Dresser of nerds and saviour of the plastics industry.

Andrew David - For his wonderful 'Alien encounters' DVD of the 2006 Aliens 20th Anniversary event.

Mantroon - For heading up the UKCM and for his work in hosting the new AL board.

Pug50 - For his dedication to his Xenomorph alter-ego, and for enabling the transfer of the AL board from EZboard to the new server, and for ongoing AL tech support.

Fal Bowden - For his duties as international liaison officer between the UKCM and the USCM.

Malika Andress - For making the NSC events possible. Without her we'd have to go hungry and change in a toilet. Malika makes us all feel looked after and hopefully her organisational skills will be an example to others who do similar events where costume characters are present.

------------------------

Just to be clear, these gold badges will not be for sale. They're only going to be given to recipients of the award. And don't worry, the award is not only for Brits (Spat is proof of that!).

We'll be posting photos of all the recipients in a separate thread as a permanent record.

Harry

Again Well deserved to ALL those who recieved the ALG.
You truely earned them.
Though as said Pete`s may be stripped from him IF you Yank`s return him once more ;)

As a relative newcomer to the larger aspects of the board, being apart of this project for me is of great Honour.
The pewter badges as you know stem from an idea of having a pin that would right on BDUs.
Thank`s to Mike for joining me on the dropship wings project & giving us the end result & this ALG award.
Without you Mike I truely doubt I`d have gotten this far, thank`s for everything mate.

I sit here & see those throughout the world who do MUCH to promote the Aliens Fandom & promote the costume side too.
Having had great success with the Pewter, making a batch of Gold to be an Award just seemed the logical thing for me & Mike too.

So after chats with Harry we have this beauty that`s available to ALL members be they background supports or costumers hogging the limelight (Abe I`m looking at you).

So thank`s to AL for allowing us to donate these & make them into the ALG.

Again Malika,Harry,Terry,Spat,Trevor,Gareth,Paul,Andrew,Ian & Peter WELL DONE to each & every one of you.

Oh for those lucky to recieve the Gold they look really cool like this ;) These are my 3 Proofs made.

Actually, Harry's been a little bit absent-minded and forgotten one recipient. :?

As those who were present may remember, after Harry had fulfilled his duties of handing out the awards he was nabbed and presented with one too. (He wasn't ready for that!) 8)

I don't think anyone would disagree that of everyone here, Harry certainly deserves it.

So there it is, the first illustrious group of ALG recipients. We hope that the list will grow gradually in years to come. It's been suggested that perhaps there can be an annual ceremony at Leicester and one at DragonCon. (However you don't have to attend cons to be eligible!)

Well done men... Awesome work deserves an awesome reward!

If someone can send me the dropship wing art, I can incorporate it into the ribbon image for the appropriate recipients.

Thannks Dom, and thanks for the ribbon image offer too - Mike is the man to speak to about this as he headed up all the graphics for the project.

I love my wings. I can't wait for DragonCon so I can wear them with pride and when other members of the AL look at it, I can go, "What, you didn't get one? Awwww, too bad."

:)

Tony saw them on my table as I was unpacking and asked if he could get a set in gold. I laughed. Silly American. Thinks he can get any award he wants.

I told him it was a Spat thing.

But I'm mean.

Big thanks for the honor folks, and I should have the awards ceremony on the next Spat Gone Wild DVD.

Well, no one is mentioning that when they gave me the wings, I broke into tears and swore up and down that I didn't deserve them and that they should instead go to SSgt Burton, who is my inspiration, and the one who taught me everything I know about costuming.

Thanks for that mate ^^

For the record, it must be said - I am incredibly proud of being included amongst such people. I do what I can for the community because I do what I love, and I can think of others who would have been equally applicable for an award.
