The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Phew. So close now. That was an ordeal.

After over a year of studying, researching, Illustrator drawing, prototyping, laser cutting, 3D printing, specialized product ordering, favor asking... and more than enough math equations, than I ever care to do again, I went from Zero...
To this:

A couple small tweaks to make, but super close now.
Will be back to write a bit about it, for anyone interested.
Also, if anyone interested, and if all goes well, I should have a PX thread, for a few pre-built kits
(all pieces included, and ready to assemble) in the near future.

A BIG thank you to martinr1000 for turning my Many Illustrator drawings into finished 3D print files.

Another shout out to seven for printing the side guide rails (Glow in the dark even!).

And of course Harry Harris for kicking everything off by providing some base measurements in which to scale everything else from and for clarifying the lens graphics.

the finished piece looks great and works well. I know that you put a lot of work into it and it shows.

With the amount of time and effort it took to make them a reality, those are held close.

Fair call! I see this constantly on 3d print groups on FB, and personally think it's pretty rude to just assume STLs will be given away.
If there's a model I want, I tend to a) ask privately and b) offer 'beer money', etc.

Why do you think cgtrader.com is popular?
https://www.cgtrader.com/pages/sell-3d-models

Second the question is asked to have an official public facing answer.

Sure, but just cause it's the internet, doesn't mean you shouldn't use manners when asking for something / respect the effort that's been put in ...

In the photos above, I believe I have all the components measured to within fractions of millimeters, as compared to the original.
The setback (for me) is that it sits a little too close to the forehead.
Considering the limited space inside the helmet liner, it's hard to imagine the cast on set did not have this same problem.
Even more so, as the original helmets did not even have the steel shell cut out. It must have been pretty tight squeeze in there.
But, it only had to work smoothy for a couple shots, so I'm guessing not much of a concern at the time.

As is, the current version is screen accurate, and works as intended, but for costuming purposes, and to be more comfortable over extended periods,
I decided to draw up a "version 2.0", and am having new brass pieces laser cut as I type this. Have also ordered low profile thumbscrews for the pivot rail.
The intent is to move the entire unit as far away from the forehead as possible, without touching the bump plate.
* Also added a little flare by having the letters cut in.

Super close to starting an interest thread, but the total number of units is going to be small.
Under a dozen.

Da braucht man, glaube ich, 10 oder mehr Beiträge, dann erscheint die PX auf der Anfangsseite des Forums…

Gruss
