The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Don't breathe director. variant with a xenomorph thrown in. More costumes for the cosplayers. That will be the minimum positive to come of that.

I'm seeing a lot of luke warm responses to this news, but honestly if we ever want to see more Colonial Marine adventures a Hulu movie is far more likely a source than a summer blockbuster tent pole film. Look at the level of lore referencing in the Star Wars TV shows versus the Sequel films.
This could be an amazing new era, untethered from Scott’s fixation with Ancient Aliens.

It's hard to get excited about this considering the last few "Alien" movies.

Sadly most of hollywood for the past few films. Focusing on diversity instead of merit in casting roles and directing things is killing everything.

The charge of "Diversity over merit" is a dog-whistle. You've just told me everything I need to know about you.

Is it?

Have you dealt with it first hand?

Disney wants to make money with the Aliens franchise.
There will be an Alien themed TV Series and this movie, that alone should be good news.
If these first instalments pay off, we could get (in the long run) a USCM streaming series.
I will wait and see. I can understand the scepsis but being only negative doesn’t help.
Just my two cents. No need to go “toxic fandom” at a point in time when its more speculation than facts.

But we can observe trends. Disney very clearly doesn't care about established lore and characters, and focuses far more on making easily-consumed, inoffensive material. Trying to make the Alien universe appeal to everyone and push some sort of agenda would probably make them millions in profits, but irreparably damage the brand.

Sure, we are all humans with our individual expectations (especially after the last movies).
Disney is not just Bambi, SW 7-9. They can also do Deadpool 3, Moon Knight and other darker material properly.
And yes, the new movie looks it will be all new characters without marines.

I get that its pretty trendy to bash Disney these days, but when we talk about the 'state of the franchise/brand'... just where do you guys actually think the state of the Alien universe is right now? I would argue Ridley's prequals have pretty much run it into the ground already and there is no where to go from here but up.

Will Disney be formulaic and check all the boxes and sanitize the product for mass consumption? Not only will they do it, but they will probably succeed in mass marketing it to newer, larger, and likely younger audiences. They will very likely make lots of money. Like Frank said, success here should mean even more new content down the road with more risks/variety in the new projects.

That said, I have next to zero expectations for both the series and movie. As a man getting his heart stomped on since the opening credits of A3, I just don't have faith anymore. I'll watch it on principle, but i won't be getting all worked up over it.

I haven't seen either of those 2 films. I wasn't aware they were even out.

Deadpool 3 is "just" greenlighted for PG18, but that was my argument that Disney is not just PG12 or so.
Moon Knight is a more darker Marvel streaming series and about to air end of march.

What bigbisont said.

its an expensive name to use, anyone who does will have to sanitize it to make enough money back. people dont want gritty and intense because the people running the world dont want geitty intense people anymore, they want scared, gentle, obedient people. Us Aliens people are the last people who would actually do anything violent and badass when it came down to it. a generation is being created where anyonw who soeaks up will have their social image ruined on the internet.

This statement, from the same above article, seems to suggest it is actually headed in the other direction:

<< 20th Century picked up the project “purely off the strength of Fede’s pitch,” said division president Steve Asbell.
“It was just a really good story with a bunch of characters you haven’t seen before.”

Asbell, who recently spoke to THR about the future of 20th Century Studios, said by doing the project for Hulu, there wouldn’t be the pressure to whittle down the potential edginess that could come with theatrical considerations.
“It’s not a film that has to be all things to all people with those gargantuan budgets. They get to be authentically what they are. And this is closer to its genre roots.” >>

If you go to director Fede Alvarez's Twitter account the byline reads "I make films to pass you off". Judging by this thread he is succeeding before filming even begins.
