The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

What's the general consensus on screw type and sizes for an accurate pulse rifle?

The screws are one a big weak point on most pulse rifle replicas (especially the commercially available ones).

On the originals they used hex socket button head machine screws with a head diameter of about 9mm.
As the pulse rifles were build in the UK, those are probably ISO 7380-1 M5 (the max. head diameter of M4 is only 7.6mm which is too small).
https://www.amazon.de/Inbusschauben-Linsenkopf-7380-1-schwarz-M5x10/dp/B018MQZN28

The screws are also often positioned right at the corners of the add-on plates. This is incorrect as the originals used two lug anchor nuts on the shrouds:

Therefore you need some clearance from the edges (at least in one dimension) to fit those.
Check out this image on Rook's site which shows the magwell of an original pulse rifle:

Cheers
Stefan

I'm talking the "cosmetic" ones on the body the counter surround and the two panel plates on the magazine outer casing. My info has them as button head m4 on the top handle shroud x4 and 4 m4 on the lower body plate by trigger and two m4 on the diagonal plate under grenade launcher all socket/Allen key slotted. Then 2 m2 pan heads on the counter surround. Thanks

I was referring to the screws that are used on the mag well (2x on front, 4x on back), the connector strip at the back (2x + 1/4-20 UNC for the bottom) and carry handle (2x per side).

Here the same image with a mag plate overlay with 7.6mm holes:

This clearly shows, that the head diameter of an M4 screw is too small.

Stefan

I think a #10 screw should do the job. It has a maximum head diameter of 9.169mm/0.361" and thus is a really good fit.

Cheers,
Stefan

They will be painted but the PRs would have been being stripped and taken apart… mine are painted on mine and there’s no problem with removing them. If anything the hex socket head makes it easier to do so. My hero PR has all hex socket heads on it.

I did all #ten socket head. I can't post pics and it's sad. I've worked on this pulse rifle all year for my brother for this Xmas. Learned alot. Thank you! I'm into detail.

What's the issue you're having with posting images? There's a great how-to post that Moosh put up at the end of this thread if it helps.

The time limit only applies to people posting in the base PX (sales) section so you should be okay to post images.
