The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

It has stuff mine doesn't (metal shrouds, cycling grenade launcher?)

Mine has stuff it doesn't (real Spas cage, working counter, can shoot little white things)

On balance...well, I'd like one, but I'm not gonna buy one....

Full Funtionality is my one massive requirement of my props, in so far as is possible and reasonable.

No disrespect to the thing - It's a great model.
I just prefer what mine is becoming :)

This is a good example of not being able to please all of the people all of the time.

In my opinion the one thing the HCG Pulse Rifle has going for it is it's visual accuracy, with respect to all the other makers out there no replica PR that's been made on the fan market to date has been as accurate as this. Of course there are folks who would prefer it to have all the bells & whistles, but then complain about the price.

Some folks will be happy with a G&P kit because it allows for the most functionality, albeit at the expense of the accuracy of the shroud, stock and barrel vent; and no doubt there may be some who will make a hybrid from an Airsoft M1A1 and 870, original SPAS cage, and then wrap it in an HCG shroud (assuming that's possible).

Ooh - Harry's making an example of me

I agree totally.
I prefer things to do stuff and any slight inaccuracies I like to explain away by assuming that components were made by different manufacturers at different times (which conveniently also explains both 8 and 10 hole PRs appearing in the same film 8) ).

I'll be interested to see one of these up close, though.

To clarify a few things:

The picture is the first production prototype, it's the piece that sorted out the shape of the unit, so it looks solid because it is.

The launcher has a bolt latch similar to the real 870 so when the pump grip is fully forward it remains closed.

The shrouds will be two piece aluminum.

There has been a lot of work put into this thing in order to get a reasonable compromise between functionality, metal content and price.

Many of the sacrifices made , notably the resin instead of metal, Thompson and grenade launcher, and the lack of 'full' electronics, were made in order to give you metal shrouds, barrel vent and stock.

As far as the vent and stock solid resin would certainly cheapen the look of the piece and as far as metal shrouds, well it's a forgone conclusion that those are the single most desirable factor.

The lack of a "full function" electronics kit was to keep the price down and hopefully eliminate possible problems that sometimes occur with complicated electronic setups. (I know this first hand)

All these issues were juggled and prioritized, added and eliminated in order to keep the price reasonable. HCG did not want to make a solid resin gun for $200 or an all metal super 'hero for $4000, The sub $1000 price is (we hope) what will make the HCG PR accessible to the majority of collectors.

Do you know if the production piece will have moving triggger/selector switches?

Just curious. It looks good thus far, and I'm wondering how many body parts I can sell on eBay to pay for mine. :)

Seeing as this item is licensed, I feel as a forum we should throw our weight behind it
and support it like we did for the Master Replicas Motion Tracker. This topic will be stickied until after
such time as the rifles have been released and we decide it's no longer needed.

Now I'm not saying you (as an individual) have to support the endevor or go out and buy one,
(seeing as many of us probably already own a PR in some form) but as a community
we'll be showing our support for the item.

I agree Russ. I may or may not buy one but support the endeavour anyway in the hope that we may see more high quality replicas from the Alien movies.

Matsuo's statement about the shrouds being in two halves is swaying me towards the wanting one though :)

Cheers

Darren

Ditto that. I don't necessarily have the money or the wall-space to own one, but I'm happy to see it come to fruition.

HCG have only been around a little while but to my mind they've accrued a decent reputation for putting out product. Some of the items had teething troubles but the way the company dealt with them was exemplary.

Plus they seem to be the only prop company left out there actually producing any props. :?

I worked for Icons back in the day and would like to comment on a few things. There are many factors that go into bringing a piece to production. Target price, screen accuracy vs. 'wonkiness' vs. idealized etc. HCG nailed it visually. Obviously they went with an idealized version as most wouldn't want the 'uniqueness' of the hero shroud. Our main demand was met.....metal shrouds. For the first time a full blown production of metal shrouds will come to the masses for a reasonable price. The rest is nice packaging for me. HGC did an excellent job finding a balance between price and features. It will appeal the the purist and the average Aliens collector. The purist will covet the shrouds, the 'average' Aliens fan will purchase one for the over all accuracy and price point. This is a big win for all of us.

Harry is right about not being able to please all the people all of the time. When people get their hands on the final product I'm sure there will a thing or two that gets nit picked. Take out the wonkyness and the purists scream 'not screen accurate'. Leave it screen accurate the prop and the people scream 'look at that warpage'. Secretly we all have a perfect live firing fully strippable image floating around in our heads. No company will ever be able to reproduce the perfect piece because perfect is subjective. But we have now been given another crucial piece of the dream.

Christian

Harry, Russ and...well everyone is right on the money here
A balance appears to have been met for us all :), even down to the OD and BB.
I'm after accuracy balanced with price and functionality (mostly price) and I'm more than happy with it.
Thank you HCG......you've made my wife a very pi$$ed off person :D

Of course what I should have said there was that I was worried about pre-ordering one directly from HCG in case it didn't make it in to the UK; I can't afford to take that risk financially. If Propstore are going to be selling them then there's no problem, although I anticipate there may be a premium in terms of cost, but then Propstore have a payment plan too so things should balance out.

die cast aluminum
or
cnc'd aluminum

Can someone answer that?

My take on this: It's a totally AWESOME PR. For those Marines who didn't have a PR, want to upgrade their PR and those future Marines who want the baddest Pulse Rifle in the land, well here it is.

The color choices of Brown Bess and Olive Drab- excellent! Pleases everyone!

Great, great features. It will become the new Standard of Pulse Rifles.

I am so pleased to see so many Brother Marines getting this suh-weeet PR!

Ooooooo-RAH!

With all that said, I ain't getting one. It's a superb PR. The payment plan is A OUTSTANDING IDEA!! BRAVO!!!
It is going to be quite possibly THE Ultimate Pulse Rifle.

But for me, my Ultimate Pulse Rifle is my Matsucorp one. 8) :delta: I am sooo very happy with it. :delta: :delta:

Again, congratulations to all my brother Marines who are getting this lovely weapon!

I really doubt it's CNC, and for the level of quality it looks like it cant be a pressed sheet... but who knows!
