The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Whatever it is, it is closer to 15mm diameter and has a concaved top like whatever the static "red button" is:

The "Red Button" appears smaller at about 9mm (I think).

Did you check the Model Kits used for the Dropship Helmet or Gateway Shuttle? Might be a part from there.

Cheers
Stefan

I only have the Revell Robotech Axoid Changer, myself. I will be checking it soon.

Can I get more info on the Gateway Shuttle? Never seen any info on it before

Oh boy, I didn't even think of the Gateway Shuttle!

https://www.therpf.com/forums/threads/a ... ead.33207/

I built a replica a few years back so I might be able to look through the unused parts for matches.

I'm wondering if these 'buttons' are caps from small push-switches, like this one.

I've wondered that too. There are caps that are concaved like we see but I can't track any down myself that is 15mm and also available in 9mm

I looked at RS components as it’s highly likely that they would have been one of the suppliers to production.

For the smaller 9mm button,

What about: https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/push-but ... s/1746145/
The stock photo isn't indicative of how it is supposed to look, but can be seen here: https://www.digikey.ca/en/products/deta ... 000/241399

For the larger 15mm button.
Maybe: https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/push-but ... es/1806879
Again, on Digi-Key CA: https://www.digikey.ca/en/products/deta ... 89/2357756

RS's is green but it comes in multiple colours if you read the datasheet and we can't see the true colour beneath the paint

Both are concaved

I placed an order for RS 339-279 and RS 339-617 as the sides seem more cylindrical. I'll post a picture when I get them.

You only see the welders functioning in close-up; so chances are they just used a real welder and zoomed in on the tip.

I think it is much easier. They simply build one welder just like the others, but with this one they attached the necessary hoses/cables to the transformer which go out of the bottom of the grip.
That way you have a functional prop and you only need to hide the hoses/cables. It's the same with the flamer - the gas bottle at the bottom only feeds the pilot flame. If the flamer is actually fired they needed to attach a hose to the rear of the flamer. This supplied the actual fuel/gas for the main nozzle.

Cheers
Stefan

I agree its rigged but you do see the top with screen of the welder when they show it cutting or welding. It's not just a novel they have it rigged to look like it's the film handheld version.

Yeah exactly. It isn't just a nozzle it's the top part of the Aliens welder.

Thank you Moosh! If you could distill Cameron's aesthetic for Aliens onto a single photo it would be one of these with the blue glow against the red emergency lighting.

Hi Guys !
I made a 3D printed replica of the Hand Welder... !
It is based on the one recently sold on Propstore. Here it is !

An active Member of your forum kindly invited me to join you on this discussion !
So here I am ! You guys seems to have some rare shots from the production, wich is really cool. I could update my model to make it closest to the real one.
But.... wich one should be considered as the "real" one up to you ? The working one ? The on screen one ? The stunt one ?

They're all "real," but different prop versions. Or do you mean "real" inside the Aliens universe?

Exactly ! ;)

I think, in the Aliens Universe, technically, it should be, at leat autonomous...
Regarding the details, I don't know which shot to use as "the master reference"

Hello Buissonland, good to see you here after our mail conversation. Your model printed beautifully, I have ordered some dark grey see-through plexiglass for the screen. It would be nice to have the 2 buttons on the other side as seen in the screen used props.
The users here always come up with more information and never before seen photoś.
I like the look of the welders with the round bottomcap, it seems to me the most in universe.
