The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hi there.

My name is Alan and I love long, lonely walks on the beach.

What brought me here was first initially watching James Cameron's masterpiece when I was in elementary school, and being reminded of it when seeing the preview for his latest movie, Avatar. I love Aliens, and have recently gotten into airsofting with a working Aliens airsoft pulse rifle I bought a few months back; joined the forums just incase I ever needed any maintenance help with it or other discussion.

Greetings.

I just caught the bug to build a pulse rifle a few weeks ago and after watching Aliens the ump-teenth time on AMC, I started to peruse the net and found this site. I'm pretty impressed so far, and I am looking forward to exchanging ideas, knowledge, and memories with you all. Big fan of the movie Aliens (tried to see it in the theaters in 1986, but because of its R rating, ended up seeing Ferris Bueller instead, which I didn't mind at all). Really enjoyed the 1999 PC game, and looking forward to the 2010 reboot.

I'll start off that I am active duty in America's oldest continuous sea going service, so I do have a kinship to the Marines. I have worked and have gone to grad school with many marines in previous tours and even today where I work. I also played a marine as an extra in the Ashley Judd/Morgan Freeman movie "High Crimes" back in 2002. :D By no means I'm an expert, but if you have any questions about U.S. military customs, courtesies, and traditions, I'm here to help. Which leads me to this 23 year old question:

I've always wondered why the Sulaco didn't have Navy personnel crewing the vessel while the Colonial marines were ashore (planetside). Perhaps someone can enlighten me or point me to the thread on this site.

thks!

Greetings exo95er - From a fellow newbie and fellow 'extra' (10 years or so)...I hope you had fun, good catering and that maybe they afforded you a 'tech advisor' distinction as a screen Marine. It's very rare, but I hope you were able to spot yourself in the finished product.

Thanks Janis! I was non-SAG so I wasn't allowed inside the SAG tent with the King crab legs and filet mignon! None the less, free food, drinks, snacks, and an $80 pay check at the end of each day! :D Yep, I was able to spot myself in the movie in three or four spots with a prominent center-screen full body shot that lasted about a second or so. Good times...

Welcome aboard exo95er!

About your inquiry-

exo95er wrote:

We probably discuss something like this (that has no real answer other than it was a necessary plot point) about once a year or so.

Here is a thread (albiet quite old) that touches on this question:

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2728&p=41317&hilit=sulaco+crew#p41317

Hope this helps!

Oh, that is excellent! [*adds movie to her Netflix queue*] And you know how to 'talk the talk'. How many days did you work? I was Non-Union for 2 1/2 years so I know the feeling and the best sets have the same food for everyone...in the same tent...not that there's any work to speak of right now :| . I was so exhausted on the last night of CLOVERFIELD that those King Crab legs might as well have been Facehuggers. 14 1/2 hours on Day #8 + Huge Green Screen= Please kill me now!

When you get a chance...I'd love to have you point out the scene and shots & I'll bet it would be of interest to a lot of the fully suited-up guys and women here.

Hi, I thought I might introduce myself as I have been lurking around this great forum for some time.

I have been an Alien/s fan for a long time now, but just recently I started putting a Dallas Nostromo outfit together.

So far I have almost completed the jacket and soon I will have the shirt ready too. I like the kind of props you can actually wear in your daily life.

Here's a few pics.
http://www.kronsells.dk/nostromo/album/index.html

The jacket is a dyed mk3 jacket into a grey/green. I know it's not SA but I like to looks. The Jacket is not as shiny as it look on the pictures.
Now I only need some pink piping cord.

I really enjoy this forum and it's nice too see the legacy is getting the attention it deserves.

Welcome aboard Ace!

Your Nostromo crew jacket is indeed impressive! You should go ahead and post this on The Ready Line. Especially as we could use more ALIEN props and wardrobe posted!

Your jacket looks really great, ACE. Nice work. I've made 4 jackets so far but haven't been lucky enough to find MK-3's that I can afford so I've used Vietnam-era surplus jackets. Your lacings look particularly good. My 2 least favorite features of construction are punching rows of holes to give the impression of the distinctive lacings and the dreaded pale pink piping. I wish you well on this aspect [My solution was opening the edge seam around the collars and inserting a hand-tinted flat shoelace material and re-closing the seam so that just a narrow strip of the lace width was exposed...still, what a pain!] I've also had very good luck with re-touching the W-Y wing patch background with a thin mix of acrylic & a fine sable brush (in the case of Dallas, a cadmium yellow to tone-down the stark white 'newness' of the patch).

Hiya Ndat! I was primarily doing the bugs, but have since branched out into the vehicles. The bigger the better! :D

Hi Sebastian - I completely agree...you can really learn an amazingly array of info from AL. I'm am very much the newbie also.
Does tiokulebra roughly translate as Uncle Snake? Here in California, my beaten-up old paperback diccionario says:
culebra f. snake;coil; Am. money belt. Either way, you've got a great name... I just pictured Uncle Warbucks with a Pulse Rifle! 8)

Howdy!

My name is Ron Daniels, you'll never guess where I thought up my username, and I guess this is my introduction post here. I've been a fan of Aliens since I saw it when I was around 13 or 14, and recently through some proding by Cpl. Derek Smith I've been convinced to do a Drop Ship Pilot costume.

I met a lot of you guys at Dragoncon, I was the super tall guy at the GBFans table. Please proceed with the hazing, I've been a Moderator at GBFans since 2003 so I'm pretty accustomed to the whole "haze the newbie routine." I'll even type in caps if you ask nicely.

Welcome aboard Ron...even though you mentioned my name, these guys will help you out as much as possible :P

A few pointers...

Be sure to hit up Sgt. Baldwin in the UACM Noticeboard area to get your service number...(not required, just fun to have)

Be sure to use the Search function alot....or PVB will blow a gasket..(hehe..Love ya Steve!)

No fighting....well nevermind that one...there is no fighting on the AL because were all adults.

And be sure to contribute, ask questions, comment, read, whatever.....just have fun. You'll never find a better bunch of guys and gals willing to help you with whatever you need...both Aliens related or personal.
