The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I bought some new clay called Apoxie Clay. It's a two part clay that hardens in 24 hours, doesn't shrink or crack. I was using foam clay which is nice but it takes a week to really dry and it shrinks and loses all the detail I put into it... really frustrating for detail work.

anyway... I am super excited for this clay.. it gives you like a 3 hour work time and fully cures in just one day... I love that it holds all the detail you put into it, and it smooths with water... and and.... it's sandable....

So far I like it. It cures rock hard so not good flexible work. just make sure to mix it good before you use it otherwise it wont cure at all. I am about to order three more... going to need a lot for this alien.

That might be a good choice for some body work/sculpting I need to do on a car wing...

Does it absorb water when fully cured?

I just got some of it wet, doesn't drink it up...kinda just sat on the surface. That's as far as my experiment goes.. :)

edit this is a quote from the website...

" and cures to a waterproof semi-gloss finish within 24 hours with no shrinkage"

this was a whole lot of cutting and gluing! This is just the template to guide me when I put the clay on there..

You can see I sorta changed my method of making a template from my original idea.

The hand looked "nice" but after looking at it for a day I decided I had to have something closer to screen accurate. I ground off all the detail and I am making it look more like the movie now... I don't mind adding my own touches but sometimes it's too much and I have to steer myself back to the movie.

It seems you are near a point in which (if choosing to) some latex pieces could be pulled from those parts, to create a wearable suit.
