The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Let me check.

If I need to, I'll head home and see about fixing it.

I've had a lot of issues with thingiverse in the past, so it may resolve. I'll let you know if I can get it to work.

I think it's the site/server.... it's not even loading the page on the phone OR a computer in two different browsers. Same error on all 3 occasions.

Okay. I found a few issues, fixed them. I updates the thingiverse page with the new cam and also the lens as a stand alone.

Thanks everyone for the feedback so far.

Gotta check the new file.
Prusaslicer found 2 errors in the last one, but fixed them automatically.

Thanks for being active on this one.

Which errors? The ones I found were unfinished or missing details.

PM me.

I just began printing version 2.2 so I can see just where any potential flaws may lay. I ran the model through Netfabb repair, just in cast there were any unfinished facets or un-joined parts, sliced in Cure (at .1mm resolution, 100% infill, supports in line pattern at 30% density, 0.3mm Z/1.0mm X/Y, overhang 45*).

Print time is 18+ hours, so we will see tomorrow what will become of this project.

And for those wondering, I have already printed 2 versions of my shoulder lamp, the second having updated corrections from the first.

It was just pointed out to me there are a couple details on some of the other helmet cams out there that were not on the casting I was loaned in order to make this 3d file.

Edit - The missing details seems to be a small dome-like feature on the raised flat behind the top (as mounted) know piece... and a thin, round raised area on the lens mount. Thanks to Einherj for pointing these out on the Frost auction model.

As my rendering software was at its computational limits (that's freeware for ya), I will see about rendering add on's for the missing details IF everyone feels there are absolutely necessary (I.E. also show up on other screen accurate/used models), otherwise, such details can be added to a finished print made from other materials.

Using CURA 4.5.0 and have no errors. This older version of CURA gives me the least issues.
Looks like itll print great. 7hrs 16min. Ill have a test done tomorrow night.

He is working on it. I am getting a second set of prints from version 2 of his setup.

Lack of actual parts in hand to model was the biggest holdup for accuratized modeling.

That along with reference material must be the hardest part, I would imagine, because unless you have a dimension from somewhere on an actual screen used prop, one probably doesn't know for sure how big the cgi model is supposed to be.

Well, as I have BOTH real part Pentax lens and T-28 flash unit, extrapolating other part sizes are not real issue. I WAS a machinist after all.

I will NOT be posting my SG headset parts for free though. The helmet cam was a one off, because it was posted... and I wanted the challenge. It HAS opened up a whole other can of worms though.

KvJ has been one of my beta testers, whether he realizes that or not.:xeno:

Print is about half way through and I see a potential thin wall issue, so I killed the cycle. If printed with the standard .4mm nozzle, it SHOULD be ok, but I am running a .8mm, so its showing as a profile "skip". I will re-edit and re-upload the corrected file, WITH the details pointed out in the "Frost" cam earlier.

I took some pics of the flaw in my print. BESIDES the glaringly obvious layer separation (ABS filament), you can see the gaping holes where none should exist.

GOOD NEWS is that BOTH the 3d Pentax AND the real part Pentax fit almost as if it were planned that way. :D

I am working with gunner on the parts and seeing if I can incorporate with my lamp and power distribution setup in a more accuratized setup.

I have some locals that troop with us that I am trying to get setup with registry numbers too so I do not have issues with having extra parts as we need more costumes and I seem to be building a cache of pieces but that works with some of the projects I have going on any who.

I "finished" the remainder last night's flawed print with the repaired file. It fits my M1 helmet contour pretty good, though I admit I might have it in the wrong position.

looks good, might need a slight forward tilt. I generally angle mine down to meet my sight line.

I was only testing the contour. As a smartas.... eerr... gunner... I don't use the helmet gear.

Look s great. If you want, I can print that out on my resin printer and your post processing time will go to about zero.
