The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

It could also possibly be a tumble dryer

Could it be the front panel off of a Creda/Hotpoint washing machine or tumble dryer? The big rotary controller cutout and a slot for buttons right next to it are a pretty good match. It might take some time to pinpoint the exact year and model number

Do we have a winner? Hotpoint 93730 even has those two small holes for indicator lights along the top edge

Could be, I can't confirm for a couple of days until I get home but in the meantime, try to get approximate dimensions. Great work guys!

Bughunt, check those continuity polaroids over, there may have been a damaged dryer in one of the small rooms Hudson and Vasquez sweep...

I managed to find another pic of a slightly different model. With the rotary controller removed and replaced by a piece of black flat plastic, you get that circular depression and illusion of "lens" we see in movie stills.

As for dimensions, the front panel should be 59 cm wide and 13 cm tall (rough estimate based off of brochure pictures and official dimensions)

That's beautiful M1861!!!

Can't make anything out resembling a washer in the polaroids Moosh, maybe you'll have better luck

I happen to own those continuity Polaroids. Here's the one I think you're talking about but unfortunately it's not the same thing.

Incidentally there's yet another Kango case in the room for interesting set-dressing though, painted white this time.

You know what, Harry?, I don't recall ever seeing THAT polaroid. Is that widely available to view? I'm wondering if you have more I haven't seen.

I was referring to this one:

We will need to find one with a red numerical display

I have a feeling that the bit that looks like a display is just a piece of colored plastic or glass in place of original rocker buttons, just like the cutout for that rotary controller is plugged with black plastic. The bare panel looked sci-fi enough, but something had to be done about those holes.
None of the Hotpoint or Creda washing machines from that range have a display (let alone one this big), they just have different configurations of buttons.

Some panels have almost a clear coloured display there too?

And some dont seem to have anything at all??

Bughunt, do you have pictures of those panels with a display? Do they have that big rotary controller too? Having multiple pictures for comparison is going to help.

Well I sent scans of all of them to Fox when we were putting together both the Quadrilogy and Anthology disc sets so I'm assuming they're all on there. Having said that there are some that aren't too visually exciting so maybe they didn't use them all.

Now that I'm back home, and can view my references - Holy ****! I'm now certain this is EXACTLY what it is!

Awesome work!

No kidding! I often take breaks for at least 2 or 3 months when I get burned out, and I always notice new little details but we were looking at everything BUT dryers... really, never imagined we'd been searching for a dryer. The set dressers are insanely talented. I was convinced it had to be a numerical display like the 3 in Ops but then I relooked at the ones in the corridor again and saw the bare holes for the rocker switches.

Now that one mystery is solved, I'll be adding a few more items shortly!

!

Here are some more items we've been stuck on:

Vented Panel:

This "vented panel". It appears both in Ops as well as throughout the corridor and I suspect it also relates to another large unidentified mainframe computer found in Ops, detailed below...

The image of the vented panel is a composite spliced together from a split-second shot in Operations. It is the best image I have of this panel:

Attachment:
Vented Panel Composite.jpg
Vented Panel Composite.jpg [ 773.86 KiB | Viewed 4422 times ]

It's dimensions should be around 20 in x 40 in (roughly)

-------------------------------------------

Ops Mainframe:

Some background research - On the Anthology set there was a bonus clip called "Building Hadley's Hope" where set dresser Crispin Sallis was interviewed. He mentioned that a nearby British Airways terminal was in the process of upgrading their BOADICEA system, specifically their "ticketing computers". A scrapper had purchased the old units from the terminal for their precious metals like gold and such. The set dressers then got to take what was left of them "for a pittance". He motions with his hands about how big they were, and states that once they removed "the covers", they were "just mind-boggling" to look at. With this info, I believe I've pinpointed which items he is referring to:

Attachment:
Ops Mini Mainframes Render Compilation.jpg
Ops Mini Mainframes Render Compilation.jpg [ 1.13 MiB | Viewed 4422 times ]

They are marked with decals that say "C2" to "C8". I believe they are two stacked on top of each other, like the 3D render I've made. They're waist-height on Sigourney Weaver (who is 5'11). I think the above "vented panel" may be the cover that was removed from the one side.

I even contacted British Airways and asked them if they had any records from the mid 80's that mentioned this upgrade to their ticketing computers (hoping they'd have computer equipment models) and they sounded very interested to help me and informed me that my request had been forwarded to their "historical department". I never heard back from them.

That's great, I'm glad the washing machine part was identified! The crazy thing is I used to sell washers and dryers as a part time job at the weekends when in school, plus my mum used to have a Hotpoint, though not quite the same model!

Could the stasis tube stand be a gyroscopic gun sight from the cold war?
Here are some examples (though no hit):

They got lots of parts from an aircraft scrap yard after all....

Cheers,
Stefan
