The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hi All I'm Mike aka Ten Hole (PR fans should get the ref. here)

I'm a huge fan of the films (Alien/Aliens) although I spent most of my 1980's childhood terrified that I'd get embryo implanted  and finally got offa my duff and decided it was time to get the gear after a good friend let me "borrow" his stuff for a few hours at Dragon*Con this year
<-----See avatar - I've never had so much fun as an adult, Thanks again Schwartz!

Anyways, I'm a costumer, workout junkie and generally prop-maker-aspirant of all trades. I'm also on the http://www.300dc.comboards and typically gear as a Spartan most Dragons but it's nice to actually have clothing on some of the con. I'm Stelios over there if anyone else is on it.

Met a few of the UK folks in the elevator (Please don' report my non service number self to 'Sarge  ) and like I promised I totally signed up here post DC. I know a few others from the Community here but always happy to meet new folks! (Hey Kronk!)

Got plans to do a full armor sculpt and build along with an m-41 and an m-56 later for a 2011 Dragon Debut along with a few fellow bug hunters from the other boards so I'm hear to watch, listen and learn, and share all the pics too!

Looking forward to getting to know you all better as this looks to be bar none the highest caliber and most knowledgeable place to begin my builds.

"LET'S ROCK!!!!!!!!"

Hi, new member here. Came to you guys by way of the Mad Max forums where I got to know Humvee Driver a bit.
Now I'm already getting psyched for Dragon*Con 2010. Don't think I'll have any Marine armor by then, but you never know.

Hi all, another new guy signing on here.

I have loved all the Aliens films for years (yes including the 4th, apart from the pink 'thing' at the end) and after helping Tonyrb out with a few bits and pieces for his CM armour in readiness for the Alien Encounter at the UK National Space Centre this year I thought I would look into getting my own suit sorted out at some point. Hopefully when I have earned my access to the sales sections I might be able to start sourcing some useful bits to help me out in that area.

I have quite a lot of experience with model making and engineering (esp electrical) and work as a project engineer designing lightning conductors and like to hope i have a knack for working out how to do things.

My plans are to produce a suit of CM armour which is not based on any SU set but as a suit for me with a more idealised twist on things like the paint scheme and detailing. In terms of weapon loadout I am thinking along the lines of sniper but at the mo these are just plans and we shall see what happens.

I am not sure what additional info I can bring to the board but I will keep an eye out for places where I can help out.

Marc

You don't necessarily need the PX section to get an idea of the sort of gear needed. :)

You can have a look at the Archives section (at the bottom of the forum main page)
or try sites such as the Spatcave:

http://www.spatcave.com/spatstore2.htm

and for as screen accurate as you can get (without actually owning a screen used set), get some BDUs from men-at-arms over here:

http://www.scifimilitary.com/forum/index.php

Although you could just wear regular combats and such and work on the rest as time and money allows. We're pretty loose about what you wear/use around here. :)

Oh, right...

Anyway, welcome to the corps.

Thanks for the welcome guys and as for the front line infantry bit I can confirm I am cannon fodder of the highest quality

Once I get a few IRL bits sorted out I will definitely be dropping Spat a line about his armour as from what I have seen on a set of his, it looks pretty easy to work on should I want to alter anything a little. In fact I think I might see if I can get a hold of an unassembled, unfinished set and build it up myself.

Going to have a bash at making up some dummy 10mm rounds at some point too, if they turn out all ok then I may think about casting a load up in resin but we shall see, at the moment this is just an idea.

Spat states explicitly on his site that he will not sell armor unfinished.

As for me, I just removed the right shoulder pauldron from my armor to make it possible to shoulder my monster rifle.

New recruit on board!

Seems like I can't get away from it and I am destined to get my armor on come 2011. Long story short I have some buddies over at the 300dc.com forums who are talking serious Colonial Marine business. Then they mentioned the fact they would really like a Sgt. Apone. I have no idea if anyone has done him personally, but I'll be happy to step up to the challenge.

I know a few folks on here from Dragon Con and other boards. I'm big on being a team player and doing costuming right the first time. Which is why I' shooting for 2011. I figure it would take that long to get the funds and get this stuff done right.
