The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Thought I'd start a thread for my dropship flight jacket.

I've worked in aviation history and always thought the dropship flying kit was obviously heavily influenced by US flying kit so why no make one of my flight jackets as a homage to Aliens and the dropship crews.

I decided to use a WWII USAAF B-10 repro jacket as the base for no other reason than I think they look great and that I'd imagine operating a dropship in space, a mouton/fur collar would be the way chosen for a flight jacket.

Patches are just some I picked up online. I didn't want to use the "Victory by Wings" patch because according to the Aliens Colonial Marines Technical Manual this was an unofficial unit patch rather than a Corps-wide patch and seeing as it was on the flight suit unlikely to be on outerwear.

I've mocked up the patch placement which is based on semi-traditional USN/USAF/USMC patch placement. Here it is...

The space above the USCM Delta patch on the left breast will have the "wings" name patch which I have made using the USCM font and a wings badge which I designed myself. I didn't want to use a current or historic US military wings qualification badge for obvious reasons and this seems to me to look good to the aesthetics of the film and being "similar" to the commercial wings patches seen on the Nostromo whilst being different. I'm getting this embroidered on an olive drab 4'' x 2'' standard size military patch.

Anyway I hope you like what I'm doing. Let me know and if you have any other suggestions fire away!

I made something similar about 15 years ago. This is looking great so far! :)

I absolutely love this concept.

I’d love to do one similar myself, but maybe using a leather jacket...

A USN leather G-1 jacket would look good Prev.

BTW, g'day from another Kiwi albeit one who now lives a very, very long way from Enzed

I'm considering a spin-off myself. I seem to have a problem with jackets...

Anyway, I'm thinking the French Army F2 jacket as a base in my case. The newer version without the big patch pockets on the bottom, but the side entry pockets at the bottom.

There's a velcro patch for a name tape and also a central chest velcro square (I guess for IR patch or something?)

These are very cheap in Europe, but shipping is the same or higher than purchase price for us in the USA.

A WEP G-8 might be a good option. They were used by USN and USMC pilots during the VN era through the 80s. They can be pretty cost prohibitive though for a new one though original Vietnam era ones come up on eBay. I have one myself, might try it with mine, very cool idea! They're also seen in SG-1, though made out of a different material.
