The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Without sifting through the movie aliens, has anyone got a number on how many times the pulse rifle counter is actually shown on screen? And does the movie show a working one, or are they all just static ?

I think the only time we see one counting down in when Ripley heads into the hive for Newt.

Thanks for that - i went through from when they lost Newt till the end of the elevator scene just before they get back on the dropship.

Looks like there was only one illuminated static counter of 42 and one working counter (possibly or just movie magic)

The working counter is shown when ripley loads a magazine, its shown at 00 then goes to 99 and then counts down to 95 - incidently you never see a 95 again.

Etc etc etc

in the elevator they use a mix of stunt rifle and the 10 hole hero

Whats interesting is the "working" counter has a screw head under the display

and this is the pulse rifle she files at the queen which also has an illuminated counter and looking closely you can just make out the screw head under the counter.

Can anyone identify the pulse rifle in question? and or the existence of a working counter in an original pulse rifle.

That is really interesting about the screw under the 'working' counter. Because clearly that is NOT a rifle with a real Remington in the GL (notice how the slide is so far back it covers the ejection port. That slide action sleeve is clearly not actually attached to anything internally and sliding freely.

Possibly due to more advanced electronics stashed in the GL area? Things the 10-hole with its live 870 could not fit (and thus necessitating a simpler static counter at 42)?

In the final post in this thread viewtopic.php?f=7&t=15202&hilit=PULSE+RIFLES+WERE+MADE&start=50

Jonesy the Cat (OG member here) refers to it thusly (but no mention of working counter):

This rifle is actually not a 100% positively identified as being fired on screen in Aliens (due to a cut to a close up of a barrel firing as Hick unload it in the elevator scene, it is however positivly fired in A3). It’s a heavily abused rifle “almost having the shit hammered out of it”. It’s easily recognized due to its heavy wear, dents and deformities (referred to as Hive Hero here, no other guns have this over worn look). Its front GL choke is filed blank (don’t know the correct English term).
It changes hands several times in ops but appear most clearly with Vasques in “Paranoid delusions”, Hicks peeking, blocking the fan for Newt and later elevator kill, and Ripley slamming in on the table in the Drop ship adding a flamer. It was later painted green, and then black to be used in A3 (and possible green again?). Although A3 didn’t require the use of the GL the weapons department had to convert it to a fully functioning SMG/GL in case some one in the production decided to change his mind (SF&Fantasy FX issue 48). It can be seen in a You tube clip test firing the shotgun and SMG.
