The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

So recently our yearly con was approaching and my girl wanted to be Ripley from ALIEN. This involved a jumpsuit, patches, PF flyer sneakers and a flamethrower.

The challenge was that The flamethrower had to pass a strict weapons check and the requirements on the convention website were vague and rarely ever seem to apply to what we see at these conventions. So I decided on EVA foam, random cardboard and junk and as many 3D printed parts as I could get to print without failing. I had less then two weeks to build this.

here's all the fun

took a lot of creativity to make this junk fit together solidly.

Started fabricating the rounded bottles with bondo, added some MDF with dowels to mount and support them.

The most exciting thing I did was make a weight distribution "system" with shocks and springs that connect to floating strap hooks. Pretty rough. it was the key to this thing not ripping apart at the con. The tanks came along pretty well too.

Started adding 3D printed parts. many many failed prints as my printer needed repair, so had to scratch build a few and a couple are missing. Very happy with the whole tank mounting system. It's starting to have some weight.

Tanks are solid as hell. this thing feels durable.
Made a sparkplug adapter out of a few parts, it's removable.
Did a rusty paintjob on the 3D nozzle.
Went back and redid the bottles after I didnt like the shape, a little too "jeff bezos"

Going back to ad more weldwood rubber cement before this gets closed up.
Weldwood or Barge are amazingly strong and flexible, just dont use them indoors ever.

Dude I know, it seems like that. Maybe they got neglected for so long and now they feel new again.
My girl just needed to pick a costume for this year and she landed on that and I was like ..." ok, cool...here we go, let's do it."
I was worried I was gonna have to make a poison ivy costume with living plants and moving water and grow lights. we got down to the wire and that was definitely no longer an option.

The damn white tube!

After about 20 min of messing with random crappy wires, I remembered I had changed out a dishwasher for a neighbor months back, and there it was. I put a piece of coathanger inside and shaped this tubing with a heatgun.
One more small victory.

-3D printer crapped its pants again so I took the raft from the tube piece with half of some tubing prom a proton pack and added some white electrical tape.

-Also added a metal ring to hold the right side wire and replaced the right side panel with one of the three that I made, it was the most beat up and I had to patch it with wall spackle, but there was something about it that had the right look, I dunno.

Then I glued the right side on with the greebs I made, some printed, and we could feel the weight of this thing.
put a little yellow acrylic on the red bottle, sprayed over it and tried to make it look like the hero.
