The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hi there!

So I stumbled upon this:
https://www.icollector.com/Sigourney-We ... i35088458#

Image

Sooo... is this the "hero" flamethrower?
I know the Propstore one (the "old" one, not the static one they have on their page currently) did have a gas reservoir for the pilot flame of the flamethrower, but the description of this one states that it is the one which had a fuel hose attached to it. This seems to match with the added part in the rear coupling.
Also, it seems to me that this one is a really clean sculpt with sharp lines, as opposed to some of the wonkier casts.

I've been trying to read up on this, but it seems a lot of reference images have been lost to time (and the Photobucket fiasco...). Is this the same flamethrower as this one punkmarine used in this image (the lower one)?

If yes, where's that image from?

Also, the site state that the Flamethrower is 33.75" from front to rear, which contradicts the length given by some users as 31.5" (and I don't think the "longer" rear coupling amounts for the full 2.25" difference...).

Interesting stuff... Anyone got any more info? Or also more reference pics?

Cheers!
Roman

I scratch built mine and it comes in at 31.5 inches. Since I used a real guard for the front and the measurements were built from there, I don't see how I'd be off by inches. Also I had access to a rubber stunt flamer from Nightbreed and mine is 1:1 to that as well.

Hi Roman,

I had a chance to take some measurements of the prop store flamer (the one with the broken M16 handle) and it has a length of 821mm (+-2mm as measurement was done with a measuring tape). I'm pretty sure that one was fully functional as it had a functional Hansen quick release coupling as well as a working trigger.
The one in your picture simply has the male part of the quick release connector inserted which could well add 5cm/2".

Cheers
Stefan

I believe that could be pretty accurate. This would mean a difference of roughly 1.5"/3.8cm, which I believe is a bit much for just the male part of the connector.
If I overlay the Propstore and egg chamber Flamethrower images with these measurements, I believe the rest of the difference lies mainly in the fact that the muzzle is a bit longer on the egg chamber Flamethrower and also the rear coupler hangs out the back a bit more.

Ah, I never knew that. Their website simply stated that it had a working pilot flame powered by the gas tank, so I assumed the rest was non-functional.
Seems there were more than one "hero" then.

As stated above, I believe the actual length difference is only about 2cm (31.5" vs. 32.3"). In my experience, scaling with real parts always allows for small discrepancies. So I think going with Bug Stompers measurements seems to be a safe bet.

Regarding the length, I was mostly wondering because other "references" state the flamethrower was 88cm long, which seems however to be the length of the Alien (Nostromo) flamethrower.

Cheers!

That makes sense to me. The stunt version didn't have the back coupler, so I had to guesstimate that based on the original object.
