The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hey there,
Are all of your 'Drops' (from what I can tell your Drops are what other groups tend to call 'Troops') Aliens themed?
I ask simply because, once I get my UBCS sorted, I'd kinda like to troop it as well as airsoft in it. (especially as most of my loca arisofts now have 'uniforms' for team sides, and the basc UBCS confuses people too much as to which team I'm on.)
Sadly I'm not likely to start a USMC costume due to expence (I have the UBCS almost finished, a Chris Redfield in the works, and an Imperial Storm Commando in limbo somwhere).
(my wife's working on a Jill Valentine and considering a Claire Redfield - Yeah, we're fairly big Resident Evil fans.)
Cheers

Rob

A lot of us have multiple costumes, but if you turn up to every UKCM Drop only ever wearing Resi gear alongside our Marine outfits, it might look funny to the public taking our pics.

For Alien/Aliens you don't need the full Marine outfit, complete with armour and Pulse Rifle.
Go for something easier/cheaper at first, like Bishop's or maybe a Dropship Pilot. 8)

Shiney!
Is there any animosity between the UKCM and any other costuming groups? (I've heard rumours that some groups have trouble with the 501st ...)

Good point on the sore thumb effect. But I am promising to finish the existing costumes before I start a new one...
I'll consider options tho .. :)

We have a great relationship with the UKG. We have very different methods of working, but we get along fine.

Generally, those with 'other-genre' costumes take both along to a Drop.
They do at least one day in Aliens kit and then swap for the other day. Often, people will slip into the 'other' kit if it's relevant to a particular guest.

So, for example:
PVB does the Drop in his Marine gear Saturday and Sunday afternoon, but spends Sunday morning in his Firefly glad-rags (which is an awesome kit, by the way), shootin' the breeze with Nathan Fillion and proving to Moreena Baccarin that it takes more 'n a few drinks to render his judgement blurry ;)

As for other groups... Not really animosity, no.
We take the piss out of them a bit and they take the piss out of us a bit. We all have awesome costumes and we're all doing this for fun, so we don't take it too seriously and we are all friends at the end of the day.

501st UK Garrison guys... They have very strict rules and we poke fun at that, we always turn up late and hungover so they poke fun at us.
I've been to a couple of parties with them and I can honestly say that they are some fantastic guys and gals!!

Incidentally, some of them are members on here, too and we work very well together at the NSC for the Alien Experience!!

That reminds me, I must get some decent pics of me in the full Browncoat costume, rather than poorly posed/bad background pics taken with the self-timer on the digicam. :)

Cost was a major factor and I didn't wanna scare him off.

If I told him how much I've spent on costumes and props since joining the UKCM I think he'd pass out. :D

Pass out? No.
I just spent £400 on a RIF for the UBCS outfit, another £100 to start Chris Redfield, I dread to think how much my two aborted attempts a Mandalorian armour cost, and I still have a £400 black biker scout armour kicking around....
I know a PR is expensive, 150+ for the base thompson and god knows how much for the conversion kit and greeblies. And that's just he gun...

The one that really scared me (but I could never attempt- on account of being a short-ass) was a top notch wookie outfit ... OUCH!

I know. :D

@Nitebytes: You could buy a resin PR, they look good and cost less, some light coloured or SA BDUs with patches, jungle boots and it'll come to no more than about £550. :)

Edit: Full set up with airsoft PR, armour, etc. and you're looking at about £1,500-2,000.

Not entirely surprising. the UBCS has come in as a very cheap costume: lack of hard parts, easy-ish availability of soft parts. Only big expense is the Tavor.
Don't think I'm hooked into Aliens tho .. I have a lot to clear off my workdesk before I consider adding a new costume to my wardrobe. :)
