The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hi all

We've been contacted by some media type students with a request. This is their email:

Quote:
We are visual effects students from Bournemouth and the brief was to have a short scene with soldiers battling a robot in a near-future war-torn urban environment.

The schedule has been pretty hectic, but we have gotten the project greenlit and at the moment we are producing proof-of-concepts and concept-art like madmen.

Our question is if you would still be interested in coming down for a day? Would really mean a lot!

To be immediately very precise: We would love to have 4 marines. Since you guys look awesome, the Alien colonial marine uniform would be absolutely amazing. Since this piece is about generic futuristic marines, if you think you could have some additional gear to mash things up, please feel free to do so. The heavy steadycam gunners are unfortunately too recognizable. I have also seen the Aliens fanfilm you are working on, in it are shots of men dressed in black uniforms, they also have different weapons, I don't know who they belong to, but they looked very nice, are these a possibility?

I know I'm asking for a lot, and even worse is the schedule. Shooting, since it is not an entire story but only a few shots, will be done in one day. This has to be Sunday 29th of January in Bournemouth.

This is all very short notice, but the entire project has an insane deadline, we could show you the completed piece six weeks from now, so in a sense it's a short effort with immediate payback.

We would appreciate it tremendously if you would still be interested.

I have asked them to confirm the date as the Sunday at the end of this month is the 31st and not the 29th. I've also asked for times required from and to.

Myself and Skapunkninja have said we will do this and I would ask on here for a 3rd and 4th marine. This is obviously not PR related or a drop or anything but might be a little bit of fun.

If anyone with Colonial Marine costume, or similar futuristic military stuff, is available on the Sunday 31st and can make it to Bournemouth then sound off here and I'll get back to them.

4 Marines needed

I could do something futurey, with a mishmash of SA BDUs, flak vest and a few bits.

Pencil me in.
What time do they want us there? I might need to beg someone's floor.

If it's definitely the Sunday I might be able to make it depending on actual times and stuff. I'd also need to borrow a PR or something as I won't be able to finish mine in time.

I'm waiting to hear back on definite times and the day.

Assuming it IS the Sunday then all should be good.

Cool. I don't have a spare PR but Rich might have something you could use maybe?

Soon as I hear back from him I'll post here and then you guys can confirm for 100% either way.

Cheers

Darren

Had a reply

Quote:
Thanks a million for the quick reply. Yes it is indeed the last Sunday of the month (the 31st), Friday is our equipment day, my apologies for the slip-up.
Arrival on location at 9h30, start at 10h00. Dressing space will be provided. Some sandwiches as well.
End will be at 17h00. The shoot will be outside on a parking lot against a blue/green screen.
The exercise will be to match you guys up in a virtual photo-real environment, so if we get your quality of foreground that's half covered ;-)
I'll personally buy you guys all a beer and burger afterwards, I really appreciate this!

First half of sequence: moving as a military covert unit.
Second: get close-ups from team leader (to be determined on location who has the best on-screen face ;-)
Third: a firing sequence.

It'll be a very technical shoot, so lots of position measurements, light reference and the works. So you wont get dirty or have any fear of costume damage (additional costumes may be brought along).

Again: much appreciated.

If you can get me the full names of the people coming over by Sunday (24th) I'll log them (private university property).

Location:

Bournemouth University
Talbot Campus, Fern Barrow
Poole, Dorset

I'll email him back as soon as everyone confirms they are def going by putting theirt full name on the following list. Cheers guys.

Well, I'm going to have to drop outta this. As much as I'd love to go I just don't think it's fair on these guys if I keep having to stop to deal with baby things.

Try not to have too much fun without me. ;)

Do they have indoor facilities if it rains, or will they cancel do you think?

Had an email from the guy and it's still going ahead. Advise bring something to wear over your costume when not filming if possible in case it is raining and maybe a big brolly.

On site at 09:30 at address given above.

Rich, if you want you could come over to mine and I'll drive both of us in my van?

Cheers

BLOODY good fun, that was!!!

Bit cold, but no biggie - We are all ruftie-toughtie Marines after all.... Well, except me, but I had to ride in sub-zero temperatures for 3 hours, coz Claire wouldn't get up at 6am to drive me
The crew were a great bunch of chaps and it was a pleasure to work with them.

We did have one bonus to get the blood flowing, though...
More when we get the results of that through.
