Sixty's thread here made me wonder about this: Is there a limit to how much cash we can take to the US?

I don't trust my Barclays Connect (debit) card due to the stories of folks on holiday having their cards disabled by the banks, thinking the card has been stolen and used abroad by the theif.

I'm planning to take over about $1000 cash, possibly a hundred or so less - is that okay?

If you are going to buy dollars Harry keep an eye on the exchange rate.

It was stable, in the UK's favour, for ages, just recently Yo-Yo's come to mind! :(

Choose your day carefully. :)

As far as I know (I can't find anything definitive after a quick Google...) the limit is much higher ($10,000 or so). Also, a country is much more worried about people taking their currency OUT rather than taking it IN.

As for the cards; It's not a guarantee of no problems, but make sure you talk to you card company and tell them exactly where you are going. Additionally, the biggest cause of problems is JOINT account cards where one card is used in the UK and the other is used abroad a short time after ... so, avoid using your wife's joint account (and yes, the money in your joint account is HER money ... ;) ).

As the hotel room is about $250 -$300 I will taking another $500 with me.

I will get cash as card I think a very bad idea and I might leave the card at my house.

I have looked at the Post office to get cash from them or my bank but the bank rate is crap and so far the post office is the best but the dollar to the pound has gone down to 1.89 as it was 1.95 few weeks ago.

Btw I have find a insurance that will cover all the Baggage and not just per item of only £250 to £300.

"Up to £2,000 for the value of or repair to any of your own personal baggage which is lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed.
Buying emergency necessities if your personal baggage is delayed in reaching you on your outward journey for at least 12 hours."

This is off
Insurer: Columbus Direct
Policy: Single Trip
Price: £14.05

I noticed that they didn't list a limit listed on the website so I phoned them. Their single item limit is £250 or £300 depending on the policy.

Bloody hell.

I got the insurance now. I spent five night looking for travel insurance from sites, I am a slow reader and I made sure I got what I need.
