The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

So, which set of patches do you have on your uniform and why?

Do you wear what they had in the movie and what people will recognise or do you have the UKCM patches because that's what you prefer? Or how about using velcro so you can swap them out depending on the event?

I go with the UKCM patches, Union Jack and rank.

I just enjoy that distinction between us and our USCM brethren.

All my patches are backed on velcro, mainly so they don't have to suffer the washing machine everytime I wash my BDUs

I have to watch out, certain mischievous Pixies have been known to remove velcro'ed patches and reattach them randomly...

Like Jon I prefer to wear the U.K. patches. I have the U.S. ones but only use them for display. The U.K. ones give a sense of identity whilst remaining pretty canon to the film.

I have mine sewed directly to the BUD's. Partly because that's how they were in the film but also because I found that with the velcro they seemed too bulky for my liking.

Cheers

Darren

We in B/3-7 wear the screaming eagle and the stars and stripes patches as they were worn in the film, but we substitued the Sulaco patches for our own U.S.S. Terrapin patches, and we wear a round Maryland coat of arms patch on our right pocket. All of our patches are permanently sewn on.

UKCM patches for me. Once the sewing's been finished I'll have Corporal stripes on there too. 8)

All velcro-backed, so the screen printed patches don't wear away the colours if they're washed as much as the BDUs. :)

I like the idea of making the distinction between the USCM and the UKCM. Makes a change to another site I used to frequent that did everything in their power to stop the UK peeps from putting their own twist on things. ;)

Think that is what make this group as tight as we are, they fact that we can individualize the equipment.

We are not like some groups that are a bunch of faceless drones, in fact it is probable that you will not find 2 marines that match, unless they bought everything at the same time from the same source and then had it assembled and painted by the same person.
Heck about the only thing you will find that matches are going to be the MR trackers. :D

Went for the UK specific look myself...

Good excuse to update my website as well I suppose!

I prefer wearing UK patches, but I couldn't put my finger on why... I guess it just feels right to me.

I love that about the 'Colonial Marines'; all our kit is slightly personalised in the same way as no two squaddies' kit will be the same. Gives our groups a visual little edge over many other sci-fi military pre-enactment types, in my eyes...

I wear the Screaming Eagle, since I've always chosen to believe that USCM means United Systems Colonial Marines. Not that I'm horribly anti-American, just that it makes things simpler when considering the extended universe and my own attempts to write stories in it.

I also wear the French flag, because while I don't actually hate any other nation out there except England on rugby days  , I am still embarassingly proud of being French, and will therefore be damned before I wear another flag - at least in the "United Systems" approach previously mentionned; it gives me a choice.

Finally, I wear my own unit patch as well - USS Cyrano. That ties in with my stories, and an old taste for naming my own ships.

All of them are on velcro, though, so that if at some point I want to switch to a screen accurate costume, I can replace them easily with the Stars and Stripes and the Sulaco patch.

Standard US layout as I'm in the US

But I have the USCM Charter ATAW patch on one breast pocket and the 10th Regiment, 3rd Battalion patch the same as Pete on the other. (Keeping to my British roots)

I'm odd though with my rank....I have Cpl chevrons on both arms and not just one.

All velcro'd on with the exception of the Sgt Stripes which were too bulky with velcro.

I got two set of P.A.T 2 BDU's.

One is in the UKCM format and the other is in the USCM format.

Put on the UK drops I use the UKCM BDU and when I go airsofting I use the USCM BDU as people know it from the film.

But I hope that people will see the PR, armour, shoulder lamp, BDU and know it from the film Aliens.

Well, that's certainly given me something to think about... it's gonna take me ages to choose which set to go with. ;)

And speaking of jackets - has anyone done something like a flight jacket with all the patches on? That could look pretty sweet.

Yup, I've got some of my patches on a nylon Alien War jacket, but I'll need another set of patches soon enough...
