The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Splitting this off from Darren's "list thread"...

Sandy - You suggested a perspex seperator?
Nah man, would cost hundreds if not thousands!

I think the best way to lay out the range would be to get hold of a roll of thin mesh scaffold netting, and use that as a side wall, if we want to do anything other than block off an entire room / corridor!
A simple white sheet a foot or so out from the wall will be an effective backstop, pegged or sewn up to form a bag at the bottom to collect stray BBs ( Which we will NOT be re-using! ;) ).

Another point to consider will be the targets - the Nerf targets were laminated and knocked over.
Do we just want to go with the same thing here? If so, I can build a wee rig with hinged clamps for the targets to sit in. Just lemme know.

I'm suggesting a sheet or two of some see-through plastic, hinged together. And placed in an appropriate position for folks to watch the action behind. Netting is also a good idea.

I think, from a H&S point of view, using the Eggleston (both ends of it) for both ranges and nothing else would be a good idea.
All displays and non AE activities can take part in the main NSC building.
This way we can post a guard at the door and only those doing the shooting at any specific time get in.

Is this NERF or are you suggesting Airsoft?

The range is actually on the Mars Yard this year, in the centre of the galleries where everybody can find you - http://www.spacecentre.co.uk/Page.aspx/230/360_TOUR/ (click Space Now)

Both NERF and Airsoft are easily and safely doable, and I think the same setup as the first year we had a shooting gallery would work well - Especially if we once again combine the shooting gallery with a prop/costume display area. :)

Anyway, I think the best thing is for Darren to talk to Malika in person when he's next at the NSC and walk through the potential areas available. Spoke to him on the phone, and what he has in mind for a range setup is pretty much spot on in terms of practicality for shooting and safety. ( I wish folk wouldn't get so spooked at the thought of anything gun-shaped, though. I've been Airsofting for fifteen years now, and doing it for a living for half of that time! Pretty much every problem I've ever encountered has involved either folk tripping on roots, slipping on mud... Or being an idiot and misusing pyrotechnics! )
