The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

I'm meeting with the organiser when I can get into central London to discuss this.

One thing is clear: Even if the organiser permits PRs at the event, we need to be very careful about our conduct in a venue so close to Leicester Square. There are usually armed police patrolling at all times there.

IF rifles are permitted by the organisers, then replica weapons WILL NOT be carried anywhere where they are visible from the street (including outside, and in the foyer of the cinema). If we go outside or to the upstairs (street-level) areas of the cinema then PRs and pistols are to be stowed behind the downstairs bar.

Weapons are to be transported in proper, closed bags/cases which should remain closed while travelling. It might be prudent to print out a letter that explains it's nature as an inert, safe prop intended for costuming.

I will update you after I have discussed with the organiser.

You can arrive/leave any time you like - I am off work from the 15th-18th, and I'd gladly meet people from the station.

You're in the military? Why didn't you mention this before? ;) Of course you CAN transport it safely but I'm saying that you WILL.

Looking forward to meeting you Steve. People are welcome to meet up at my place in Acton - I have loads of parking near my apartment.

Well Gareth as the person of experiance with shows in London, would it be better to err on the side of caution & say NO Firearms just for the ease of things or as long as Common sense prevails we will be okay with them?

I (hopefully) would like to think none of the members would ever be silly enough to ever carry the PR or pistol, knives out in public. Plenty with experiance & plenty of Military trained as well as Common sense prevailing with most too :D If lucky enough Mjolnir maybe making it`s first public appearance if we are bringing arms.

Right now that I know your off I`ll book the tickets sometime today & I`ll let you know here when I`m supposed to hit kings Cross & Yea Steve be nice to meet you too mate there as well :D

it would be a seriously bad idea to have ANY sort of replica weapon at this gig, considering its location, and due to the fact that its a cineama, not a official show.

I agree with Richard, such a venue does not lend itself to carrying replica weapons. That said, the Somerset House showing of Aliens that a few of us attended a few years back was a NO weapons gig and to be honest I didn't find having no PR a problem at all.

Regardless of what the Cinema organisers say I would suggest not taking any replica weapons anyway.

Cheers

Darren

Thats fair enough, will be a shame not to have them, what with them being so iconic but legality and safety are of higher priority than looking 100% badass, i can live with only being 98% badass.

Thank`s Darren for echoing Rich`s comments.
You guys have the experiance concerning these sort of specials rather than a full blown drop.
Recall the photos of your taking Abe for walks around London too LOL

Anyway No weapons is no problem & really having both of the Icon creatures for these Iconic movies far outlines the likes of the "grunts".

ok has the venues said anything about weapons?
i was thinking we could have someone by the screen door armed and randomly pull people and check tickets?
i had it dont to me for episode 3 by stormtroopers?
its a good idea
i can easily transport a pr with no problems or consequences
just an idea

I'm gonna meet with the organisers next week.

However, unless she is keen for us to carry PRs then I would go along with Rich and Darren and say that it would be better/easier to leave them at home.

The organiser has already said that it would be cool for us to check tickets for the event, but in the manner of cinema staff, not in any explicitly aggressive way, armed or otherwise. No behaviour seen in the movie Aliens give Marines any excuse to harass members of the public in the same way as Stormtroopers do. Of course, I'm not jealous ... but I would be if I was a Marine! ;)
