The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Clangers,
Well that`s settled it then,we HAVE to have a Party that surpasses that held in the Great Halls of Valhalla.
3 x 40s,1x 30 this Year, seems this does indeed call for something special. MORE Drinks !!

Though must admit I DO follow the rule of the younger woman as BK say`s.
Get em whilst they are young (well as long as hey arn`t my daughters at least ;) ) :D
I always feel young & full of vigour.

Paul,
Have to say the 30s are so so mate.
The 40s/50s I now have my Midlife crisis to look forward to

Jason

A couple of people have mentioned about the NSC in November. Have we (the UKCM) actually been invited to participate?

The date for FACTS has been confirmed: October 11-12 2008

BUT, there is also a new and even bigger convention coming to Belgium and the UKCM should receive an official invitation from it soon: Hypercon. April 26-27., Florahallen Aalst. I'll provide more info soon, yet I'd love to see a couple of UKCM guys there.

You'll get the chance to participate officially, which gives you free entrance, dressing room access and the possibility to book hotel rooms in group, taking advantage of a cheaper price.

Hypercon will of course have its first edition only, but it is different than FACTS and has more room. Total amount of space is 7200 m².

As we have been asked to help organise this thing, it was a tough decision to make and ultimately, we accepted but we had to cancel our presence at the opneing weekend of Star Wars the Exhibition in Brussels because of the preparation work.

For the first edition, we got cooperation from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, to promote "Stargate: the Ark of Truth". That means we need to get our stargate up and running by then. Stargate-guests are being looked into.

If this edition becomes a success, the event organisation will obviously plan more editions; one of which light become more "Aliens"-themed. The idea was there already, but with "Alien encounter" in London around that time, it was deemed better to postpone a bit and then Fox jumped in and said they're working heavily on Stargate now.

Ian Whyte's cancelled, which is a shame, as I was going to ask him to sign a recent acquisition of mine. :)

I may still attend this on the Saturday or Sunday, though only staying for the one day.

Anyone else going?

OMG. I may just have to try and get to this. BC has the same birthday as me :P

Anyone else going in costume? Do you think it'd be a problem getting in with a PR? (I haven't tried going anywhere with it other than a local night club for halloween last year)

Looking here:

http://showmastersonline.com/forums/ind ... opic=37661

Quote:
COSTUME WEAPONS AND PROPS GUIDELINES FOR COLLECTORMANIA MIDLANDS

All props must be taken to the Cosplay Desk for inspection upon arrival. If the item is judged to be safe, it will be issued with a sticker and you will be allowed to carry it around the event. If not, it must be stored in the cloakroom until you are ready to leave the event.

Types of weapons

Weapons and props up to a length of 1.5m will be allowed for floor cosplay, providing they are made from a lightweight material and all sharp edges have been rounded off. Suggested materials include foam, plastic or balsa wood. Larger props following the same guidelines are allowed during the masquerade, but they must be stored in the cloakroom until the time of the masquerade.

Plastic replica guns such as BB guns are allowed, but they be must shown to have the magazine removed or be fitted with an orange 'flare cap'.

We regret that metal replica weapons will not be allowed in the event under any circumstances.

Conduct

Mock battles or 'play fights' are not allowed inside the event area.

Please be safe with your weapon or prop. Anyone found behaving in a way which endangers themself or the public will have their weapon confiscated and/or be escorted immediately from the event without refund.

During the event, you may be approached by a member of the cosplay team or security to check your weapon has been approved. If this happens, please be co-operative.

Transporting weapons and props

Finally, remember to be extra vigilant when transporting items to and from the event, especially considering the recent terrorist threat. Replica weapons should be kept out of sight in a locked box or carry case. Please remember that replica weapons must NOT be taken out of the arena and into the shopping centre. YOU are responsible for transporting your items so be safe and have fun!

By that I thought they meant Klingon sword-things, Gerbers and the like, rather than metal PRs. :?

It's unclear I guess, but they do specifically make the point that 'plastic replica guns' are allowed, but make no mention of metal replica firearms... Which is what made me think the metal thing applied to replica firearms too.

Hmm, maybe a grey/Olive Drab/Brown Bess area then, but looking at it that way, would they ban a PR which was 49% plastic and 51% metal?

The UKCM have attended a few Showmasters events and have taken a mixture of different PR's. Some all resin, some plastic / resin and some plastic/ metal. We have never had a problem.

That said, we were "expected" at the events as opposed to just turning up in costume. Not sure if the same would apply to anyone turning up outside of an official drop as it were.

Cheers

Darren
