The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Hi all,
Just a heads up - if you plan to plug anything electrical in when in the USA (rechargers, etc) you'll need to bring a socket plug adaptor, as the sockets are different in the States.

USA sockets also run on 110V not the 240v we're used to here.

Can anyone advise whether we will need a voltage converter as well as an adaptor? (I've not travelled to the States before).

Thanks very much :)

Karyn

Right. Many portable appliances you're likely to use abroad are capable of running on 100-240V so with the correct plug adaptor will work fine on 110V. Check the rating plate on the appliance.

The hotel will have Hairdryer and Iron etc. either in the room, or availiable to borrow, so no need to take them.

My camcorder and camera battery chargers both are 100-240V and I have a US plug -> the small "figure of 8" plug. lead.

So, get a plug adaptor if you are taking anything electrical and check the rating plate on the appliances. You *can* get 110V to 240V voltage converters, but they are heavy/bulky and impractical to take on holiday.

Well I don't think I'll be needing the hair dryer!

Also, nobody phone me while I'm ironing my BDUs - I don't want to burn my ear!

Both my camera charger and Archos charger are US by default and take a 3-pin adaptor to plug in here in the UK, so I think I'm sorted :)

Just remember if you only have the socket converter and not the voltage converter it's going to take a long time to charge anything.

Trust me ;)
