The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

Well, Ive made the first step.

I have just purchased a M1 helmet off ebay and have found a site that does all the parts for it. Its the first part of my gear before I have a chat with Chef about the body armour which Im hoping to purchase during the summer.

I thought Id go for the real steel lid for the feel of it and have found a great tutorial on how to get the best from the supplied parts and the lid itself. I am thinking of modding the headset to take the guts from a racal clansman radio which I still have from my airsoft team days but that might be a step to far.

Ill keep you posted as to how Im getting on, but if anyone has any hunts, tips or pointers for the first stage of the marine project, please feel free to give me a nudge.

Cheers

Keith

Mooncrest does, not sure if that's the site he has found.

When it comes to drilling your lid for attaching the various bits.

I HIGHLY recommend Tungsten Carbide tipped drill bits.

Standard ones will be no use what so ever, and even the TC Tipped ones will struggle but at least they won't be a forlorn hope.

Adding in real functioning comms parts is simple enough. As long as you're handy with a soldering iron and don't mind chopping wires.

Angle grinder is needed to for the mic side . Also i would suggest getting some thin aluminium (beer can thickness) and cutting it to shape then gluing it onto the hinged section of the mic and the helmet parts of the hinge . As the resin is quite thin here and would be easy to break .

Thanks guys.

Yes it is the mooncrest site... The parts look pretty good. As for the build itself its going to keep me busy. Ive decided not to put in the clansman mic kit as I can probably still use the clansman with a throat mic which isn't too visible. Plus it means less fiddling with the dummy mic on the helmet itself.

And thanks for the tips on drill bits. Ill be purchasing some of those this week

Cheers

Keith
