The discussion of the Alien series of films and the props used in them is the aim, but if it's got Big Bugs and Big Guns, then they are welcome too!

So, a few of us have been to Dragon*Con twice and stayed in both the Hyatt and the Marriott. Still more have been to D*Con once and should have had a look around all of the hotels.

Every year, I'm learning more and more about booking hotels ... so I'm happy to do the same role again. So, which hotel should I book for 2010?

This really needs to be decided before Oct 1st, because the Marriott will be booked up 10 seconds after midnight on that date! ;) Luckily, I'm on night-shift that night so I will be awake at midnight Atlanta time.

Spoken to her Highness, the Grand Overlord Admiral Gina... and im GONNA BE AT D*CON NEXT YEAR! yaay :D

i prefered the Hyatt myself. Better bar, and that balcony was a godsend for smelly latex suits!

Agreed Rich, tho I think strictly speaking we weren't supposed to have balcony access :D

My view of the Hyatt v Marriott room issue is coloured by certain additional factors :)
Barring that, the rooms themselves were both ok. Both bars are easily in reach regardless which one u stay in so that ain't a factor IMO. Better food available in the Marriott tho the foodcourt is closest to the Hyatt. Dealer rooms are in Marr so less distance to haul purchases.

Unless price becomes an issue (by one being cheaper) then for me its the Marriott purely due to the superior tea making facilities ;)

Which did u prefer G?

good point about the food though.... High Velocity bar was certainly convenient. I go for the cheapest!

I liked the Marriott but, having never stayed in the Hyatt, I don't have anything for comparisson.

As has been said elsewhere in the thread, they're so close to each other and everything else that I don't think it makes a difference unless one is slightly cheaper than the other.

I like the Marriott as it was located very well in the middle and near the shops and food places as the Hyatt is a long walk to the hall of frame and also the other hotel and plus now the skywalk made it very easy.

I think the Marriott is all round the best hotel for D*Con.

Plus I like looking over every thing.

OK. The reservation website (and phone line) for the Marriott is fugging awful.

It only lets you book one room at a time and It crashed before I could book one room.

Eventually I got the following:

Room 1 - 1 King - Check In 3rd Sept - Check Out 7th Sept
Room 2 - 1 King - Check In 3rd Sept - Check Out 7th Sept
Room 3 - 1 King - Check In 3rd Sept - Check Out 6th Sept
Room 4 - 1 King - Check In 3rd Sept - Check Out 6th Sept
Room 5 - 1 King - Check In 3rd Sept - Check Out 6th Sept
Room 6 - 1 King - Check In 3rd Sept - Check Out 6th Sept

There were 2x Double beds and 2nd Sept rooms available before the website died but none after. The dates outside of D*Con started to evaporate while I was making the bookings.

Nice one, G

Already putting money aside and crossing fingers I don't have to use it to pay for food/rent between now and then.
